Travel Industry in Australia

Well, i was talking to a potential client introduced to me by Juliana from Travelex.  Her name is sue.  Currently, she is working in a travel agency in Australia.  I was really hesitant on the deal as I understand the importance of having the necessary after sales support in an IT system.  It will be very difficult for me to give her the necessary servicing once the system goes operational while she is in Australia.

In the end, to mitigate her risks, I suggested that she wait a little and look at some of my upcoming travel portals before deciding.  Yeap… :P   Already got a few deals all set in place!

But anyway, that is the important thing about this story.  Today, just wanted to document down important notes of the industry.  (Yes.. i am an avid learner… one of the most interesting things I find in this world… is to learn about how real business operates…. and from… find out some kind of opportunity?)

SIMILARITIES (to Singapore)

Reservation and booking engine – uses Abacus, Galileo, Amadeus to do the backend reservation and booking.

Trafalgar -  International seller of special trafalgar packages.  Should be similar to Starcruise, Clubmed, etc…

DIFFERENCES

Concorde International – Seems to be a wholesaler of Air Fare.  Sounds like the New Shan in Singapore terms.  However, they seem to be more IT savvy in the sense that they allow their travel agents to see the fares online.  They also have the relevant interface for travel agents to integrate this fare checking facility to their website.  Hmmm… maybe New Shan has got something to learn from Concorde International…

Calypso -  A portal holding all the possible package tours of major agencies which provide the packages…  (hmmm… does singapore have something like this?  hehe… maybe got opportunity…)  Sue did a demo.. but the system really sucks… slow and troublesome… and just jia lat.  :P
