Operation Pakistan (OP) – Day 0 – Day 1

After 8 hours of gruelly air travel, we finally made it to Lahore. During the flight, I was fully entertained by the Audiobook I have gotten from the Library, talking about the origin of coal and how it sparked off the industrialization process. Very interesting…
We were seated next to this Pakistani lady. She had trouble with her in-flight entertainment so I gallantly helped her with it. We did some small talk after that… and I learned that she was actually staying in Canada and was back to Karachi because her mother was sick. When I told her about my intention of starting a business in Lahore, first thing she said is:
As a fellow Pakistani, I will advise you to be careful…. and take care of myself….
Tips on Offshoring
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008Just some rip offs from online articles to bear in mind.
http://soa.sys-con.com/read/381227.htm
- Build the team yourself
- Put every candidate through at least the same vigorous interview process
- Do not leave your office until you know what the offshore team will be working on tomorrow.
- Do not let the local geek manage an offshore team – geeks are interested in cool techniques and coding only. They do not really care that spending a week on finding the most efficient solution jeopardizes the project deadlines.
- Cut the losses quickly – if you hired a new offshore member and he did not deliver within the first two weeks, let him go. Cutting the umbilical cord sooner saves money (actually a lot of money).

- Define your service level requirements (SLR) in unambiguous terms.
- Visit the provider’s office at least once. Meet the team that will work for you. Get familiar with them.
- Insist on reward and penalty clauses

Prism – Mozilla
Sunday, May 4th, 2008Was trying to try out some kind of cool Adobe AIR technology when I chanced on something really simple and nifty.
At the first thought, it did not sound like it was anything extraordinary. I mean… it just sounded like another stripped down browser of some sort.

I always had always wanted to play around with new technologies. I still remember 4 or 5 years back when I left Crimsonlogic to pursue my own entrepreneur dreams… Those days I was so young and idealistic. Full of self-confidence and armed with an indomitable can-do spirit.
My boss asked me what were my plans…. and I told him I was going to dabble in open source. He asked me how I was to earn the money to feed myself, I said I have a little savings…
Man.. what was I thinking?
Anyway, within a really short time, money started to run out and I had to move on to do something that actually put bread on the table. (yah… some times in moments like this… I wish that I got rich parents…
) Before long, I got so entrenched in doing small projects here and there, struggling for bread and butter issues that I was back where I started. Utterly busy and no time to really do what Iike.
Recently, finally have time to play around again.
Just read my blog.
