Well, figured out a way you can just launch your Microsoft Apps without too much of a struggle.  Just go to the run command by doing a:

Windows Key + R

Then for:

• Words – Type "winword"
• Excel – Type "excel"
• Powerpoint – Type "powerpnt"
• Calculator – Type "calc"

Sometimes, we just need a convenient way to extract the html color code for something on our computer screen.  Of course, we can do a print screen and figure everything out in photoshop…

But there is a easier way with Pixie!  Have been using it for some time and find it really cool.  Best thing… it is FREE!

I think this point is pretty obvious.. I mean.. just look at the number of articles I have written recently.  Scary really.  Anyway, this will be a constantly updated article.  Why constantly updated?

Well, for the simple reason that I am not exactly looking at mastering .NET within a day or two.. and this is intended to be some sort of a journal for me to note down the difference between the 2 frameworks.  I am pretty familiar with Java J2EE… so I should be able to point out the difference along the way….

Availability of Cache in .NET

In Java, the basic framework comes with:

• Page
• Request
• Session
• Application

In .NET, it comes with a default implementation of a caching system.   Some data are just meant to be cached to prevent overloading of the database with unnecessary hits.  In Java, caches are generally implemented through a separate component like EhCache (something employed by hibernate).  However, in .NET, they make it a lot more convenient by including it as part of the default framework.

 

Cache.Add(“mycache”, myobj, null, DateTime.MaxValue, TimeSpan.FromMinutes(10), CacheItemPriority.Normal, null);

I was just raving about some very cool javascript gallery effects yesterday… and was about to work on a Joomla component to showcase such things… when I realized that it was already done.  The company was JoomlaWorks and wanted to charge 12 Euros for their Simple Image Gallery which was an amalgamation of 5 Litebox like effects.  Hehe… it was only then that I realised that LiteBox had 5 clones:

• Slimbox
• ThickBox
• LyteBox
• GreyBox

SlimBox

Hmmm… this looks exactly the same as LiteBox.  Cannot seem to see any difference between this and LiteBox physically.  But of course, its advantage is simply in being slim.  It claims to be a 4kb implementation of LiteBox… and it sure ran fast on their website.

ThickBox

This runs heavy… or maybe the pictures are just bigger?  But it does have certain added features like Modal Dialogs…

LyteBox

I like this.  It looks just like the orginal with an added Slide-Show feature. Neat.

GreyBox

Well, did not really like it if you ask me.  Problem was… the image was forever loading.  Also, did not really like the idea of GreyBox taking up the entire screen real estate.
